THE FOUNDING STORY

A SEED TAKES ROOT

The idea for Ruchik Brews first took form in the winter of 2024 during a chance trip to Bengaluru. Raised in Mumbai and London, far away from my roots in Karnataka, my parents kept us kids connected to the homeland through our plates and cups, giving rise to a deep love for authentic Indian gastronomy. However, it was during this recent trip alone that I truly spent time in numerous Darshinis and cafes across the city in the Indian capital of coffee. While coffee culture has come a long way, featuring experimental fermentations and coffee-based drinks with amazing flavour compositions, the soul of coffee in Bengaluru still lies in the South Indian filter coffee. In fact, the name 'Ruchik' itself comes from the Konkani/Kannada word for tasteful or delicious.

Consumed across economic strata and geographies, ask anyone who has spent time in South India and you are sure to get a few fond stories centred around sipping a cup of filter coffee. And that is exactly what we are trying to create at Ruchik Brews. A taste of home, heritage in a cup and a deeper understanding of the beloved beverage that is the South Indian filter coffee.
